This story contains a relationship between Xena and a lost love. Gabrielle is in it, but they're best friends only.
I was pacing to and fro, “I should've keep this a secret...”
Xena stared at me and assured, “You did the right thing, Rai.”
I sighed, “Then why do I feel like I'm losing something?”
“Well...I don't know, Love.”
“First, I'm cursed -- I'm now a man...” I muttered, revealing to her. “Like, a part of me is missing and I can't find it.”
Xena turned to me and suggested, “It's been five moon's...maybe, you're finally getting used to it.”
“I don't know...”
Eponin approached us, “The council has reached a decision.”
The room was crowded with onlookers. Amazons from all the nations where here waiting for the verdict. Friends and foes, from my past were gathered here to see this.
I walked into the large room, to my right was Xena and on my left was Eponin.
“This way, my Queen...” Eponin said, leading me toward the table of Elders.
The Elders came from the Nations eight providences. They halted any further discussions and watched me silently as I approached. I glanced at each one, who I've known at one time or another. My eyes finally rested upon the Queen.
Ephiny was whispering something to Gabrielle.
The head Elder Trina disclosed, “We've made our decision. Do you have any questions?”
I shook my head, no and patiently waited.
“Since your curse was a unique one,” Trina enlightened, “Our resolution will be as well.” She glanced over at Ephiny and silently nodded.
“Sierra, you will remain our Queen when you're in your female form. You will keep all the privileges that one has,” Ephiny decreed. “But, when you are male -- your title will be regent, advisor to tthe Queen.”
I stood there silently listening to her. My world was crumbling down around me as with my soul.
“Also, you can not live in the village with your sisters,” Ephiny explained and added, “You may live on Amazon lands, of course.” She finished, “Do you agree and acknowledge this?”
I nodded, “Yes, my Queen...”
A loud voice bellowed, “A MAN CAN NOT BE A REGENT!”
Ephiny inquired, “WHO DARES TO DISRUPT THIS MEETING?”
“NO MEN IN AMAZON TERRITORY!” shouted another.
A handful of Amazons from various tribes stepped forward, protesting this idiotic judgment.
“How DARE you speak to your Queen in such disrespect!” Xena growled as she stepped toward them. Scanning the room for the instigator and finding her.
A large burly woman stepped forward as her dark eyes scowled at Xena. She brushed the long bangs from her face to reveal a scar upon her cheek and decreed, “I will not be part of a tribe that lets a man help run it!”
“YEAH!” roared the others, “NO MEN ALLOWED!”
“You need to hold your tongue…” Xena advised.
She calmly replied, “Make me…”
“ORDER!” Trina roared. “Please be quite!
“Who are you?” Ephiny probed. “And why have you disrupted this meeting?”
“My name is Teries,” she responded. “I'm from the Northern providence.”
“Did they teach disrespect there?” Ephiny remarked, gesturing for Eponin.
I wanted to say something, but I realized that I was still a male and remained silent.
Eponin and the Royal Guards instantly surrounded the small group.
“Are you arresting us?” Teries spoke up. “We haven't broken any laws…unless speaking your mind is one!”
Eponin growled, “Shut up!”
Xena flatly stated, “But treason is…”
Their opposition echoed through my confused mind. My sisters were fighting amongst themselves and I was to blame…this wasn't good. Maybe, I should've stayed away…
Teries gasped, “WHAT?”
“For starters…” Gabrielle affirmed.
“Disrupting a council meeting,” Ephiny enlightened, “Second guessing the Elders and the regaining Queen.” She approached Teries, studying her for a moment, “Which of course, would be me. Eponin, take them away.”
“Yes, my Queen…” Eponin nodded, escorting them out. “Lets go ladies…”
“Mark my words,” Teries warned. “This isn't over, not even by a long shot!”
Triona decreed, “This meeting is now adjourned!”
Everyone filed out of the chamber, with thoughts of what transpired only moments ago plastered upon their faces. They too seem to be torn by the council's decision, but wisely held their tongue.
Their eyes burned through me. Staring into my soul that has been torn and confused. Since, this whole thing transpired pieces of my soul were fading in the transition.
Xena approached me, “Lets get out of here, hon.”
I silently nodded and followed her out.
Teries and the others were in the large cell, discussing a plan.
“I know Ceris, would support us…” informed Elisha, a brunette whose striking hazel eyes fell upon her pacing partner.
“Yeah…she owns me a favor,” Teries nodded, turning to her. “Elisha, you're in charge of gathering our allies and any supporters.”
“Sure…”
Teries revealed, “Next step…to get the Tartarus out of here.”
“A dinar for your thoughts,” Xena offered.
I shrugged, “It's done…what more is there to say?”
“Calm down slugger…” she advised. “I'm not against you-”
“I know…” I nodded. Hello…it's not her fault… “I don't know what's come over me…it's only a title.”
“True,” she agreed. “You earned it thou and it means a lot to you. ”
“I guess so,” I turned to her and apologized, “Xena, I'm so sorry-”
“Shh…” Xena hushed, gently placing her finger upon my lips. “Love, it's okay. I'm just worried about you, that's all.”
“I know,” I whispered back, staring into those crystal blues and feeling a peace overcome me. “I'm fine now…”
“Good,” she said, pulling me closer and gently placing her lips upon mine.
Rashia interrupted, “Umm…excuse me, my Queen…”
I sighed, “Yes, Rashia?”
“Your new hut is ready,” she replied.
“Thank you, Rashia.”
“Your welcome…” she responded. “My Queen, may I speak freely?”
I turned to her and nodded, “Sure…”
Rashia took a deep breath and exhaled it, “For whatever it's worth, I'm behind you and I'll follow you till the end.”
I gulped hard, “Thank you, Rashia. I needed to here that.”
She responded, “Your welcome…” Then she turned and made a quick exit.
“See, you're still our Queen…” Xena expressed, placing her finger on my heart. “Because, it's what's in here that counts.”
“I suppose so…”
“You know I'm right,” Xena whispered, kissing my cheek gently and finally placing a well deserved kiss on my lips.
Discord appeared before the renegade Amazons and advised, “I'll be happy to free you all...and all you have to do is one tiny favor.”
Teries approached her, “And what might that be?”
“Only gathering me an army…” Discord shrugged. “It won't be that hard considering half the Amazons are on your side.”
“True…” Teries nodded. “But why can't you do that yourself…you're a goddess and stuff.”
“See, I have something special planned for someone…” Discord revealed with a smirk. “Besides, I know a true leader when I see one. So how about it?”
“Sure, I'll do it.”
“Good,” Discord mischievously grinned, “See ya!” She waved her hand and they all disappeared “Onto the next one…” She changed into a ball of light and disappeared.
Two guards were silently standing at their posts.
“Everything all right?” Eponin inquired.
“Yes, Ma'am.”
“Good,” Eponin nodded and gestured toward them. “Come with me. Queen Ephiny wants to talk with Teries.”
“Yes, Ma'am.”
Eponin entered first, finding the holding cell empty and growled, “CENTAUR DUNG! Where in Tartarus did they go?”
“I don't know Ma'am…” she replied. “No one's been in or out.”
Eponin ordered, “Gather two squads and search the area for them.”
“Yes, Ma'am…” the young guard nodded and exited the room.
“Ephiny's gonna have a cow…” she muttered, shaking her head.
Ephiny, Gabrielle and Xena were sitting at table having some Cider and cookies.
Ephiny inquired, “How's Sierra doing?”
“Fine as one can be…” Xena replied, taking a bite from her cookie.
“I'm sorry-” Ephiny apologized.
“It's not your fault Ephiny…” Xena comforted. “You did what you had too.”
Ephiny sighed, “She hates me now…”
“No, she doesn't…” Xena shook her head and revealed. “She's more upset with herself than with anyone else. Right now, her male personality is taking over and the other's disappearing.” She took sip from her mug and continued, “She's afraid if she gives in…she'll lose her true self.”
“Wow…” Ephiny gasped. “I didn't realize that.”
Gabrielle asked, “Is there anything we can do?”
“Just be there for her…” Xena advised.
Gabrielle responded, “Of course…there's no question to that.”
“I'd better go,” Ephiny said as she rose to her feet. “Eponin should be back with Teries.” Turning to Gabrielle and giving her a peck on the cheek and whispered, “Don't forget…”
“I won't, Sweetheart…”
Xena inquired, “Aren't you going to eat your cookie?”
“Nah…” Ephiny replied. “You can have it. I'm not really that hungry.”
“Thanks,” Xena took it and abruptly munched on it. “Mmm…good.”
“Xena, I'll fill you in on my interrogation later.”
“Sure…” Xena shrugged, realizing what she had said. “Wait…I'm coming with-”
“Xena, it's fine…” Ephiny said, gesturing for her to sit. “Besides, Gabrielle has to talk to you.”
“All right.”
“Later…” Ephiny turned and walked away.
“What's up Gab?”
“I know its bad timing on my part…” Gabrielle sighed. She took a sip from her Cider and asked, “Well, do you remember that favor-”
“Yes, I do…” Xena nodded. “And we've talked it over.”
Gabrielle spoke up, “Really?”
Xena nodded, “Yeah…”
“And?”
She finishing her drink and revealed, “Rai agreed.”
Gabrielle probed, “What about you?”
“Gabrielle, you're my best friend…” Xena affirmed. “With a warm and loving heart. You know I'd do anything for you and I'm fine with it.”
Gabrielle's eyes brightened as a smile formed across her face. She leapt over the table and gave her best friend a hug. “Thank you, Xena!”
Xena kissed her forehead and hugged her back, “Your welcome...my bard.”
Ephiny repeated, “They're GONE?”
“I've got search parties out looking for them,” Eponin informed.
“HOW?”
“They must have disappeared…” she shrugged, “There wasn't any sign of a break out.”
“Discord…” I drearily enlightened.
Ephiny turned to him and inquired, “You think?”
“She's been after me for awhile…” I nodded, “I wouldn't put it past her.”
Discord was standing on edge of a cliff, gazing across a lake of burning lava. “Aahhh…here we are.” Her eyes scanned the lake for a certain someone trapped there. “Where are you…” she muttered, “It's not like you can just get up and walk away…GOT YA!” She located a strange human-like statue next to some large rocks. “This is so, going my way!” She pointed at the statue and voiced, “Come to Momma…”
The statue shook itself free, levitating across the lava and finally rested a few feet from her. It revealed the image of an angry looking woman. Her last gesture was reaching out to strangle someone.
“Humm…” Discord circled her and expressed, “Too bad…this would look great in my place.” She held out her hand and silver necklace appeared in it. She ran her fingers over the intricate Celtic pattern carved in silver; that held a teardrop shaped Amethyst. She held it out to the statue and whispered, “What was yours is now mine…”
The Amethyst began to glow as a bolt of light shot out and struck the statue. The light spider webbed across it, wrapping itself around it two fold and finally covered it entirely. The statue pulsated once as a surge of energy left it and entered the Amethyst.
“Maybe, I'll add you…” she shrugged, placing the necklace around her neck. “After I'm finished with you, that is. Let's get to it…” Discord said, gently blowing a kiss towards it.
The statue's head and neck started to crack and peel. The gentle wind carried the stone fragments away as if was just mere dust, within moments it revealed a pale woman. The female's eyes fluttered opened, revealing pale blue ones. She instinctively squinted from the sun's afternoon rays. “THAT BITCH!” she growled, trying to move her body. She soon realized that it was still covered in stone and grumbled, “What's going on?”
“Velasca, it's nice to finally meet you.”
“Who are you?” Velasca retorted, “How do you know my name?”
Discord brushed off a chip of stone from Velasca's shoulder and replied in whisper, “A very good ally…my name's Discord.” She circled around her, “You're famous for destroying Artemis' temple. Granted that you weren't born a god, never the less, you had the balls—” she grinned at the comment and continued, “To break one of the Goddy commandments. Thou shall not destroy another's house of worship.”
“Yada…yada…yada…” muttered Velasca, silently trying to use her powers to break free.
“It won't work…”
Velasca rebutted, “What are you talking about?”
“Your powers.”
“How?”
“Oh, let's just say a family secret…”
“Give me back my powers!” Velasca growled, “Wait till I get out of here.”
“Honey, you can't…” Discord shook her head sighed. “Besides, you're now just another immortal…who's part stone--”
Realizing that this leather cladded goddess had all the cards and finally gave in, “What do you want?”
“Good, I thought you'd see it my way…”
“But, I want my powers back—.”
“Do have I have the word STUPID written on my forehead?” Discord remarked. “You'll have it back after the job's done.”
Velasca muttered something under her breath and nodded, “Fine…what is it?”
A mischievous smirk formed upon Discord's face as she enlightened, “You're going to destroy the Amazons…”
I approached my new hut, winded and out of breath; from my evening run. Wiping the sweat from my brow, as I stood there for a moment gazing over our temporary home. It was a bit smaller than my other one, but one can't picky at these things. Besides I'm gonna have to build a larger one for our newest member of our family. I can't believe that we're havin' a baby… I guess being a male isn't all that bad after all.
“Rai, are you going to stand there all night?”
I snapped out of my thoughts and replied, “Well, you know…it IS a beautiful night--”
“Well, we're hungry…” she informed, holding freshly dressed rabbit up. “Since, I did my part…”
I couldn't help myself, but to chuckle at this cute sight.
She raised a brow, “What's so funny?”
“Nothin', really…” I responded, approaching her. Kissing her on the cheek and taking the rabbit from her, “I'll be back in a few.”
Light spilled out of mouth of the cave as torches guided one towards a large room. A gentle breeze traveled through the cave, causing the flames to flicker. The dark shadows seemed to dance upon the moist walls and ceiling.
I lounged in the hot springs, letting my mind wonder over these last five moons and contemplating life itself. I reached over, lifting my wineskin to my lips and poured its sweet contents into my awaiting mouth. This was great…we have our very own cave and a large hot spring to boot. What more can one ask? “Well, a certain princess…” I spoke up, remembering our dinner. “Ugh…I guess I should get up and take care of it,” I said, sitting up.
“Will a Queen do for now?”
Turning towards the familiar voice, “Gabrielle?”
“I think Xena and Ephiny can handle it…” Gabrielle informed, stepping into the light. She was wearing a large hide as she approached me. “So?”
“What?” I blurted out, raising a brow.
“Hummm…” she let the hide drop to the floor, revealing to me her very naked body.
My eyes wondered over her gorgeous body. I felt all my blood rushing toward a certain organ and expressed, “You're beautiful…”
She blushed a bit, “Thank you, Sierra…” She lowered herself into the water and sat down next to me.
“Would you like some wine?”
“Sure, that would be nice.”
I passed the wineskin to her, “Here you go.”
“Thanks,” she said, taking it and lifted it to her lips. Gabrielle took a large gulp and accidentally spilling some on her chest. “Oh, I'm such a klutz!”
My eyes honed on the wine as it traveled over a firm breast toward its erect nipple and finally dripping into the water. Any thoughts I had left me as my instincts kicked in. My hunger, my need for this woman overwhelmed me so. “Is this really what you want?” I inquired one last time, praying secretly that she'll say yes. Her scent…lilac and lavender…oh my.
Gabrielle stared at me for a moment and started to say something. She leaned over instead and kissed me gently on the lips.
Well, I had my answer…
I heard the familiar laughter as I exited the cave. Xena and Ephiny were laughing about past follies. It's been too long…
“I'm going to check on them…” Ephiny informed, rising to her feet and moved towards the cave. She noticed me heading in her direction and started to say something.
I placed a finger upon my lips and mouthed, “Shhh…” I approached her and whispered, “She's fine…she's waiting for you.”
Ephiny whispered back, “Thank you, Sierra…”
I snuck up from behind my Love, wrapping my arms around her waist and sat down. “How's my Princess?” I asked as I gently kissed her on the cheek.
“Better now…” she said, leaning against me. Xena's fingers intertwined with mine as she placed it upon her growing belly.
“So, how's dinner?” I asked, nibbling on her neck.
“Good…” she replied, “You should have some before it gets cold.”
“I will…” I kissed a trail towards her ever so sensitive ears. “But I want dessert first.”
“Rai…”
My hand slid past her cloak and into her tunic.
“You need to eat.”
My hand found its prey…a firm round breast. A finger brushed upon its already hard nipple. Her skin's so warm…so soft… Feeling her body shiver at my touch. “Princess, your body's telling me a different story.”
“Well…” her voice faltered a bit.
My stomach growled.
She chuckled, my friend went flaccid and the mood was shot to Tartarus.
A village was burning around me as the screams of children echoed through the wind. The familiar sounds of battle bring me to my senses and open my eyes…I duck as a sword swings past me almost decapitating me, instinctively I stabbed my attack with mine then, kick them off my sword. I look down at my attacker and it was an Amazon…
I bolt up from my dream, taking a large gasp and glanced around.
Xena instantly wrapping her arms around me and comforted, “Rai, calm down…Hon, it's only a dream.”
Feeling her body against mine, calms me down a bit and nodded, “One Tartarus of one I'm afraid.”
“Do you want to talk about it?”
Wiping the sweat from my brow, “I was in a battle—children were screaming…I was attacked…I looked down at my attacker and it was an Amazon.”
“Did you know who she was?”
I shook my head, “No…but her necklace had the Northern Providence colors.”
“Northern Providence?”
“I have a bad feeling…” I swallowed hard, “There's gonna be a war, Xena.”
Valasca stormed into the Queen's hut, followed in tow with Teries and Elisha, dragging with them the Royal Guards and tossed them to the side.
The blond Queen rose up suddenly from her bed, startled by the intruders and growled, “How dare you-”
The leader of the trio, Valasca approached her and decreed, “I have every right…I'm the new Queen.” Pulling out her dagger, slitting her throat in one split second, before the woman could speak up.
“WHAT?” she voiced as a stream of warm liquid ran down her chest. The Queen reached up to her throat and felt her blood seeping from her fatal wound. She groaned, falling to her knees into the now pooling blood.
“I want this tribe by sunrise…kill anyone that won't turn,” Valasca commanded, gesturing to the dying Queen. “And clean this up.”
We approached her hut and were stopped by the Royal guards.
The guard stepped forward, “HALT, you may not enter.”
“Move,” I ordered, ignoring her.
“WHAT PART DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND?” Another guard uttered, reaching out to stop me.
My beloved gabbed her hand, twisting it till the guard fell to her knees and growled, “DON'T EVER TRY AND TOUCH HER AGAIN.”
The door swung open and Ephiny uttered, “What in Tartarus is going on?”
The guard spoke up, “My Queen, HE tried to enter-”
“WATCH IT, GIRLIE!” Xena warned, scowling.
Ephiny turned to her friends then, down at the kneeling guard and spoke up, “Come on in guys.”
“Thanks Ephiny,” I said, entering.
Xena released her hold, “She's still your Queen…” turning to the other guard, “Remember that.”
“Both of you leave us,” Ephiny stated, gesturing. “Take her to the healer.”
“Yes, my Queen…” they replied in unison.
Ephiny closed the door and moved her attention to her early morning guests. “So, what can we do for you Sierra?”
I glanced over at Gabrielle then, I began to pace.
Xena leaned against the wall and replied, “Rai, had a dream-”
Gabrielle asked, “A dream?”
“A vision,” I corrected.
“It must be very important if you're here,” Ephiny stated, taking a seat next to her wife.
I stopped pacing and revealed, “I was in a battle…”
Gabrielle spoke up, “A flashback?”
I shook my head, “I was fighting with other Amazons.”
“Amazons?” Ephiny repeated, “Are you sure?”
I nodded, “The one that attacked me wore the Northern Providence's colors.”
“Rachel's tribe!” Ephiny blurted out, “She's one of my best friends.”
“I know it sounds crazy…” I acknowledged, “I have an overwhelming sense it's about me.”
“How so?” Gabrielle inquired.
“My presence…my curse,” I enlightened, “I should've of stayed away-”
Xena interrupted, “NO, Rai…it's not your fault.”
I just stared into those eyes for a moment, wanting to lose myself in them.
Gabrielle suggested, “We should send a scout to check it out first.”
“I'll go,” Xena spoke up, not breaking our contact.
Reaching up to her cheek, caressing it with the back of my hand. “We will go…” I corrected.
Small skirmishes were taking place in the center of the village. The screams of the falling and wounded echoed through the early morning air.
A dark haired Amazon was piggybacking a child as she escaped the horrors of her village. She zigzagged through the familiar forest in the attempts of finding her daughter a safe place to stay.
“Mommy, I'm so scared…” the little one whimpered, tearing up.
“It's alright Princess,” she assured, wrapping a protective arm around her. “I won't let them hurt you.”
Xena rushed past me on Argo, leading us towards our sister tribe.
Gods…please don't let this be true. I leaned into Cronus, as he galloped after them.
“Princess, hold on tight…”
The little girl wrapped her arms tighter and spoke up, “Okay, Mommy.”
“Split up!” Elisha shouted back and growled, “Tereis wants them dead!”
Elisha and three other Amazons were chasing after them.
We flew over a ridge and were almost to the Village. When a body was spotted laying on the side of the road. “Xena!” I called out, realizing that she had already noticed it. I pulled on Cronus' reins and we skidded to a stop.
Xena pulled Argo to a stop and climbed off to check on the body. She turned it over and recognized the clothing. “She's an Amazon…” she informed, feeling for a pulse and glanced down at the woman's bloody chest “It's too late.”
“Tartarus…” I muttered, climbing off and approached the woman. “That's Derria,” I stated, recognizing her. “Rachel's wife.”
“If the Queen's wife was this far-”
“She was trying to escape.”
Xena nodded, “They must have taken over the village.”
“Derria would have fought along side her-” I uttered, realizing something. “Unless she was trying to protect someone.”
“You mean a child?”
I nodded, “The last time we talked, Rachel wanted a child.”
“By the Gods…”
“SNAP!” as a branch broke in two.
Xena instantly unsheathed her sword and used caution, as she moved towards it. An infant girl bolted out from her hiding place and crashed into her leg. “Whoa…” she assured, sheathing her sword.
“AAHHHH!!!” the little girl voiced and shouted, “NO! BAD!”
“Shh…” Xena hushed, reaching down and picked her up. “I won't hurt you.”
“MOMMY!” she cried out, struggling.
“We're here to help-”
Two Amazons charged out from the foliage in full attack mode.
The infant screamed and began to squirm from Xena's arms.
Xena ducked just in time, as a sword swooshed by and retaliated with a swift kick to the attacker's gut. She unsheathed her sword and flipped over her, as the Amazon turned around to face her.
I blocked the lunge of my attacker with my sword and delivered a quick backhand to her face. She recovered and rushed forward, into my sword.
Xena blocked an overhead blow then, a side one before she sliced the Amazon across the chest. Suddenly, a knife flew towards the infant's head and instantly deflected it with her sword.
I spun around and threw my knife into the direction it came from. It struck its target and the figure fell out from a tree.
“THUD!” as the body crashed to the ground.
I walk over to the lifeless body and withdrew my knife from Elishia's chest.
The infant's cries died down to soft whimper, as Xena gently held her close. “Shh…it's going to be all right,” she whispered, sheathing her sword.
“I'm going to take a quick look around.”
“I'll wait for-”
I shook my head and interrupted, “No, go on ahead and I'll catch up.”
Xena looked down at the innocent child in her arms and replied, “Alright…Rai, be careful.”
“I've got too…” I said, flashing her a grin and disappeared into the forest.
“Little one, do you like horses?” Xena inquired, moving towards Argo and introduced. “This is Argo and I'm Xena.” She climbed onto her back, turning her around and nudged Argo forward. “Come on girl, let's go home.”
Xena rode up to Ephiny's hut and climbed off Argo.
“Xena, where's Sierra?” Gabrielle inquired, looking around.
“She'll be here in a bit,” she informed, “She had to check the village out.”
Ephiny probed, “Whose child?”
“We believe Derria and Rachel,” Xena revealed, handing the sleeping infant to her. “She was being hunted down like an animal.”
Ephiny held the child close and whispered, “By the gods…”
“The poor Angel,” Gabrielle kissed the infant's head.
“I've checked her over,” she decreed, “A few bruises and some scratches.”
“We'll take her to Ariel,” Ephiny stated, “I'll meet up with you in a few.”
“Alright,” Xena nodded, leading Argo back to the stables.
Artemis was sitting amongst a large stack of old books, thumbing though one.
Aphrodite appeared next to her holding two cups of hot Coco and held out one. “Art, we have to take a break…” she advised.
“Maybe,” Artemis nodded, taking the cup and slowly took a sip.
Aphrodite sat her cup down and picked up a musty book. “EEEEWWWW!!!” she voiced, opening it. “Why doesn't Athena LIKE clean her books?”
She shrugged, “I don't know…”
Aphrodite began to read a passage out loud, “Calling out to the four winds North, East, South and West. I call upon the Fairie land of Magic and Myth, Avalon. Bring forth one borne from magic. A pure soul shall be, dark and white mix within thee.”
“APHRODITE!”
“WHAT?”
“You just read a spell,” Artemis revealed and sighed.
“Well, I didn't know…”Aphrodite shrugged and expressed, “I thought it sounded COOL…especially about the Fairie land.”
“Avalon.”
“So, what's going to happen?”
Artemis turned to her sister with concern and responded, “I don't know.”
I rode hard and fast, back to my friends. That damn vision I had earlier replayed in my head. Death…death and more death… “Because of me…” I grumbled, leaning into Cronus.
Suddenly, a pale gray horse appeared carrying a cloaked traveler. This Stranger wore a domelike helmet; his dark hair was collar length and a dark patterned cloak covered the rest of him. He glanced over at me, realizing that a collision was to transpire and pulled back on the reigns.
I pulled Cronus' reigns in and dug into his sides, as the distance shortened between us. We skidded along the path, turning sharply towards them. Cronus slammed into the Stranger's horse and I was sent flying. I crashed to the ground landing hard on my shoulder and resting on my back. I heard his painful cries, as everything went black and I was out.
I felt someone's hands upon my body, feeling it for any injuries and a groan passed my lips.
“I'm so sorry,” the Stranger expressed, “It was an accident.”
“Don't worry…” I muttered and opened my eyes to a set of emerald ones looking down at me with concern. “I've been through worse.”
“You have a large bump on the back of your head and your shoulder is dislocated.”
I slowly sat up and a wave of dizziness overcame me. “Centaur balls…” I grumbled, as the pain in my shoulder erupted throughout my body.
“You should really rest-”
“No,” I stated, climbing to my feet. “I've got to check on Cronus.”
“He's bruised up a bit,” a deep voice on my left disclosed, “But he's fine.”
I glanced around for the voice and realized that the pale gray horse was the culprit.
“This is Rupert,” the Stranger introduced and held out his hand, “And I am Merlin.”
“Hold on a minute…” I suggested, as I moved towards a tree and slammed my shoulder into it. Popping it back into place with a loud pop and I growled out in pain. “TARTARUS!!!!” I approached Merlin and shook his hand, “I'm Sierra.”
“Nice to meet you,” he expressed and held out an herb, “Here take this for the pain.”
I took it and placed it under my tongue. “Thank you, for helping me…” I said and apologized, “Sorry about crashing into you and all.”
He assured, “No harm done.”
I stared at him for a moment, reading him. Merlin was a bit taller than myself with an athletic build and foreign attire. “Your not from around here,” I declared, knowing full well he wasn't.
“I'm from Avalon,” he revealed and inquired, “Where are we?”
“Greece,” I replied and continued, “To be exact…we're a candle mark away from Amazon Territory.”
“Amazon Territory?”
“Yes.”
Merlin remembered reading Myths on fierce warrior women that lived together in Lesbos. “But this isn't Lesbos…”
“No,” I shook my head, realizing what he thought and explained. “There's a tribe that lives there and the other tribes are scattered all around us.”
“Really?” he remarked, “So, the Myths are true…”
“Huh?”
“Where I'm from Amazons, Centaurs and the Greek Gods are Myths.”
“Oh,” I nodded and enlightened, “Well, my friend…you'll see that their very real here.”
“So, it seems I've been sent into the past…” Merlin voiced, thinking.
“Your welcome to come with me to my tribe.”
He turned to me with a questioned look and asked, “They allow men in their village?”
“Well,” I muttered and explained, “Let's head out and I shall tell you the story.”
“Alright.”
“I can feel the residue of dark Magic here,” he expressed, riding along side of me.
“My Mother believes it to be older than the Gods themselves.” I pulled Cronus to a stop outside of my hut and climbed off. “You can rest here.”
“Thank you,” he said, climbing off.
Xena grabbed be from behind and held me close. “I felt like something happened to you,” she whispered, kissing me on the neck.
“Xena, this is Merlin…” I gestured and introduced, “Merlin this is Xena, my wife and champion.”
“Greetings to you,” Merlin greeted, holding out his hand.
“Nice to meet you Merlin,” Xena grinned back and shook his hand.
“Sierra and I collided with each other earlier,” he stated.
“I was thrown from Cronus and dislocated my shoulder.”
Xena ran her fingers over my shoulder, feeling the swelling around the joint. “Let's go inside so I can take care of it,” she advised, escorting me into the hut.
“Don't forget about the large bump to the back of your cranium,” Merlin added, following behind them. “She blacked out for a few moments.”
“Thank you,” Xena thanked and gestured for him to sit down. “Make yourself comfortable.”
“When are you expecting?” Merlin inquired, looking down at her growing belly.
“In four moons,” she replied, grinning.
“Congratulations,” he expressed, “From a curse, comes a gift…a miracle of life.”
Xena raised a brow at him, “Thank you.”
“I should've been healed by now,” I grumbled as I sat down, “Something's not right…”
“What do you mean?” Xena queried, removing my shirt.
“My back, shoulder and my head are killing me.”
“It takes time Rai.”
“Not really,” I said and enlightened, “Usually it takes less than a candle mark for my body to heal itself.”
“I'm surprised that you didn't break anything,” Merlin remarked, taking a sip of water. “You're very lucky.”
“I guess so,” I muttered, realizing that I needed to inform Ephiny about Valasca. “I've got to talk to Ephiny,” I stated and rose to my feet. Suddenly, a wave of dizziness overwhelmed me and I lost my balance.
“Rai, sit…you're in no condition to go anywhere…” Xena advised, catching me as I fell over and sat me back down. “Besides, she'll be over in bit.”
“I overheard Tereis talking about their alliance with three other Providences,” I disclosed, biting my lip from the increasing pain in my back. “Which means-”
“We're evenly matched so to speak,” Xena finished, handing me a mug of water.
“I'm afraid so…” I nodded, taking a much need sip.
“This is about you being a male?” Merlin inquired, looking over at me.
“Yes, I being Queen of all the Amazons caused this rift between my sisters.”
“The damned curse and that meddling BITCH Discord caused this, Rai…” Xena interjected, “NOT YOU.”
Discord appeared behind Xena and chastised her, “Now…now Xena, must we bring vulgar words into the picture?”
Xena backhanded her, but instead of making contact with Discord's face, her hand merely passed through. “TARTARUS…” she grumbled.
Merlin stood up in awe, observing his first encounter with a Greek Goddess. “Oh, my…” he muttered.
Discord turned to me and greeted, “How's the body holding up CUZ?”
I rose to my feet, shoving the pain from my mind and focusing on our unwelcome guest. “What in Tartarus do you want?”
She glanced over at Merlin and approached him. “Who do we have here?” she asked, lustfully checking his body out.
“Merlin,” he replied, keeping a watchful eye on her.
“Nice name,” she expressed. “Maybe we could hang out sometime.”
Merlin grinned and politely responded, “I'm sorry, I cannot.”
“To bad…” she sighed and whispered, “If you change your mind, just call.”
“DISCORD!” I shouted and decreed, “Keep you over active hormones in check and get out of OUR HOME.”
“That's not very neighborly of you cousin,” Discord revealed and sighed, “You don't look very well…I can feel your pain growing, spreading. You're trying to ignore it aren't you?”
“Get out…” I muttered, knowing where this conversation was going. I felt Xena's eyes upon me reading the answer and waited for her to say something, but she did not.
“It's only going to get worse,” she taunted, remembering something. “It seems that my spell also made you a mortal.”
“WHAT?” I uttered aloud.
“Isn't that a HOOT?” Discord remarked, smirking and abruptly disappeared. “Bye, all!”
Somehow, I knew it deep down as I silently stood there.
Xena was at my side in an instant, “Come on and let's get you fix up.” She led me to the bedroom and called out, “Merlin, can you bring the leather pouch that's hanging behind you?”
“Sure…” he said, grabbing the bag and followed in tow.
“Why didn't you tell me that you were in pain?” Xena inquired, as she wrapped her arm around my waist. Her hand felt my forehead with the back of her hand, “You're burning up.”
“Slipped my mind…” I drearily responded, knowing full well I'm going to get a lecture on it. Gods, my head hurts…it's really hot in here too.
“Rai, that's not like you-”
“Xena, nothing's like ME!” I retorted, pulling free from her and dived out of the opened window. Tucking myself into a ball and rolled to my feet. “JUST LEAVE ME BE!” I roared, sprinting towards the safety of the forest.
“RAI!!” Xena shouted and rushed to the window.
Merlin appeared at her side, “What happened?”
“Rai has a fever and ran off,” she informed and passed him on her way towards the front door, “I've got to go after her. She's in no shape to be alone…her injuries alone-”
“Let's go.”
“Alright,” Xena nodded and stepped out of their hut in search of her injured lover.
Suddenly, two bright balls of light appeared before them. Artemis stepped out of the one and Aphrodite stepped out the other.
Artemis greeted, “Good afternoon, Xena.”
“Howdy, Xena!” Aphrodite waved, grinning.
“Artemis…Aphrodite, we have a big problem…” Xena revealed and explained, “Discord's curse made Rai into mortal as well.”
“WHAT?” they uttered in unison.
“Rai ran off,” Xena disclosed, “She has a burning fever and showing signs of disillusions. We have to find her NOW before she hurts herself.”
I instinctively glided through the tree limbs on my journey away from everyone's annoying presences. I need to be alone…doesn't anyone understand that? The world around me began to spin uncontrollably. My foot missed a limb. I fell out of the tree and crashed to the ground in a loud, “THUD!” Landing face first, instantly knocking the wind from me. “TATARUS!!” I growled, slowly climbing to my feet. A sharp pain erupted in my side and I collapsed to my knees in pain. “DAMN…I don't need this.”
Artemis, Aphrodite, Xena and Merlin appeared, surrounding me.
Artemis greeted, “Hello, sweetie.”
“Hera's tits…” I grumbled, holding my side. “Can't anyone just leave me alone?”
“Calm down, cutie…” Aphrodite assured.
Xena slowly approached me and revealed, “Rai, you're burning up and your delirious.”
I grimaced, as I climbed unsteadily to my feet. “What part don't you all understand?” I repeated, holding my side.
“RAI,” Artemis called out and decreed, “Listen to reason…you're hurt and we're taking you home.”
“Mother, I'm fine…” I replied, “I just have small headache, that's all.”
“Rai, I love you and I want to help you get better…” Xena softly spoke up, moving closer to me.
I turned to my wife, then back to my worried Mother. “I can handle this myself-” my vision became blurry and everything went black.
Xena was instantly at my side catching me and whispered, “RAI, what's going on...”
“Incompetent fools!” Valasca shouted, backhanding Elisha. “You let the Rachel's brat get away.”
Elisha lowered her head in disgrace.
“It makes no matter,” she remarked, contemplating her plan. “Get out of my sight”
“Yes, my Queen.”
“How does it go?” Discord spoke up, appearing on her right.
“We have three providences so far,” Valasca replied, as she sat down on her throne. “We're in the process of gathering all the supplies you asked for.”
“Good,” Discord nodded, “Wouldn't want to run out of anything during the battle. Now would we?”
“Of course not.”
“I know what you're thinking,” Discord smirked and revealed, “Why can't we just attack now?”
“Yes,” she nodded, “We could take them by surprise-”
“No, they'll be expecting that…” Discord stated, “Besides, I've got a feeling about these things…be ready.” She flashed her an all-knowing smile and abruptly disappeared in a flash of light.
I finally awoke from slumber and slowly opened my eyes. Holding my hand up as to block the late afternoon Sun and grumbled, “Gods…can it be any brighter?”
“Of course,” Ephiny teased, placing a gentle hand on my shoulder. “It's good to see you, my friend.”
“Like wise,” I replied, trying to focus on her form and tried to sit up. I had a bad case of cottonmouth and it wasn't funny.
“Woa…” she gestured, pushing me back down. “I've been ordered by YOUR Consort to not let you up-”
“Xena?” I repeated, feeling a tight bandage that held my sore ribs in place. “Where is she?” I asked, looking around our bedroom.
“I made her have dinner with the others,” Ephiny informed and inquired, “Would you like some water?”
I nodded, “Sure.”
Ephiny smiled at me and handed me a mug filled with water, “Here you go.”
I took a much need gulp of water, drenching my dry mouth with it's refreshing essence. Remembering the important information I needed to tell her, “Ephiny, I've got to tell you-”
“Sierra, I already know…”
“Huh?” I voiced, “How-”
“Xena already told me.”
“Oh,” I said, “Everything?”
“Yes, everything…” Ephiny nodded and enlightened, “We've finally come with a strategic plan that may work. Our allying Providences are converging here as we speak.”
Raising a brow at this, “How long have I been out?”
“Seven days now,” Xena replied, entering into the room with a heaping tray of food. She quickly sat the food on the table and sat on the edge of the bed. She lovingly looked upon me, leaned over and sought my soft lips with her own. Her tongue found its playmate, greeting warmly and gently pulled away. “I love you, Rai…” she said breathless.
Our eyes locked on one another and whispered, “I love you too, my princess.”
Ephiny observed the loving couple for a moment and silently crept out of the room.
“How bad is it?” I inquired, caressing her cheek with the back of my hand.
She flashed a grin and revealed, “Well…you have a concussion, a couple cracked ribs and lots of bruises.”
“Damn…” I sighed, “All from flying off Cronus.”
“Well, sorta of…” Xena spoke up, “The ribs were when you fell out of the tree.”
“Why?”
“You were delusional and wanted to get away from us,” she enlightened, laying down next to me with her head propped up with one hand.
“Sorry…I don't remember that.”
“No worries, love.”
Valasca was riding a gray mare, followed by Teries, and two other amazons, leaders of the various providences. Her ally's followed in tow towards their adversary's tribe and toward their destiny. She glance back at HER large army and smirked, “We'll go down in history for this.”
“Yes, my Queen…” Teries affirmed.
“You have your orders,” Valasca turned to her second, “Wait for the siginal.”
“Yes, my Queen…” she nodded, gesturing for the other two leaders to follow and parted.
“Time for my revenge…” Valasca vowed, nudging her horse forward.
A scout entered and bowed, “My Queens, Valasca's tribe is three candle marks to the north.”
Ephiny rose to her feet, “What about the other providences?”
“They branched off from the main body and circling around to our flanks.”
“Good, sound the alarm…” the Queen ordered, turning to her Captain. “Eponin, you know what to do.”
“Yes, my Queen…” the scout bowed and exited.
Eponin nodded, “As you wish, my Queen…” She turned and made a hasty exit as well.
“This is it, huh?”
Ephiny turned to her seated wife and replied, “Yes, it is sweetheart.”
A loud horn sounded, alerting the tribe of the impending battle.
Amazons warriors gathered their weapons and met at their pre-destined rallying point. Assigned Mothers gathered all tribe's children and escorted them into the maze of caverns that were safely hidden under the village.
A very naked Xena was straddling me and meeting every powerful thrust of mine, sending me to higher and higher. She tightened her muscle around my throbbing cock and her hands were gripping my shoulders. I squeezed her growing breasts roughly and again noticed the warm glow that radiated off my wife. Gods…I love that.
“My, Liege…” she growled between breaths, “Fuck…me…harder!”
I obliged my demanding wife and grabbed her hips, as I plunged deeper into her warm center. “Xena…Xena,” I muttered, feeling my impending climax.
“OH…GODS,” Xena groaned, bringing herself to her own powerful climax. “YEEEESSSSS!!!!!!”
I shot my essence into her and felt the geyser release it's sweet nectar upon me. “Xeeennnnaaaa…” I growled, riding the final waves of our tremors until my love collapsed in my arms. I wrapped my protective arms around my spent wife and kissed her on the forehead. “Come here…”
“Gods, Rai…” she gasped, “That was incredible.”
“Aye…” I voiced, as my sore ribs shouted out their ill treatment and grimaced.
Xena noticed this and worriedly probed, “Did I hurt you?”
“Nah….” I shook my head and enlightened, “I'd go through worse if it meant that I could see your heavenly face a minute ago.”
Xena flashed her 'look' at me and mischievously smirked, “No wonder I've kept you this long…”
“Hey-”
The ceremony battle horn disrupted our after play and we both went silent.
“What in the hell…” I muttered.
“Stay in here,” she said, climbing off me and quickly threw on her clothes. “I'll go and check it out.”
I slowly sat up, feeling the throbbing of my ribs and groaned. “Damnit…I have to go.”
“NO!” she growled, grabbing her sheathed sword and her chakram. “You're in no shape to fight.”
“Like you are?”
“I fought up until I gave birth…” Xena responded, “And yes I am.” She rushed up to me and kissed me gently on the lips. “Please stay here,” she whispered, her eyes pleading.
Those loving eyes just melted my soul, realizing that she was right and simply nodded.
Xena flashed me a reassuring grin and quickly rushed out. “Merlin, it's time!” she called out.
“I'm right behind you Xena,” he replied, closing the door behind them.
I heard the front door slam shut and slowly climbed to my feet. Dizziness overwhelmed me, but I trudged towards my chest and opened it up. Grabbed some clothes and tossed them onto the bed. I moved over to the nightstand, poured some water into the dish and splashed some cool water upon my face. I dried myself off and quickly dressed as fast as my wounded body could take.
After a quick meditation, the pain had temporally disappeared. I rushed out of our home and sought out my wife. I whistled to Cronus and waited only a moment for my trusty steed to rush up to me. He only wore his bridal. Bareback will have to do for now… "I need you to kneel boy," I said and I waited till he obeyed before I climbed onto him. I grabbed his reigns and spurred him forward. "Lets go find my wife."
Artemis appeared before us, blocking our path. "WHAT IN TARTARUS ARE YOU DOING?" she yelled, fuming at my weak condition.
"I'm going to find MY wife."
"OH, NO your not…" she scolded, "Get back into that house and rest. You're injured remember?"
"I DON'T CARE!" I growled, "I'm not going to lay around here and let that BITCH hurt my wife and our unborn child."
"Discord and her human lackeys will be punished," Artemis firmly stated and affirmed, "I promise you that."
"MOTHER…" I rolled my eyes and sighed, "That damned BITCH will perish at the end of my BLADE."
"What in Elysian Fields has gotten into you?" she probed and took a step toward me, "Little one, you're not acting like yourself."
"NOTHING is like me MOTHER!" I retorted and narrowed my eyes at her. "I'm changing…into the mind set of my MALE counterpart."
Artemis finally comprehended what her daughter had said, "Why didn't you tell-"
"MY GODS!" I sighed, "I've been sending out hints since the beginning."
"I'm sorry-" the Goddess finally comprehended something from earlier and her eyes widened, "A grandchild?"
"Yes, Mother…" I nodded and advised, "If you would like to see YOUR
grandchild born, I suggest you HEAL me and take me to my WIFE."
My Mother did as I asked without a second thought. I appeared
next to wife as she scanned the valley in which our battle would take place. She
looked so beautiful kneeling behind a large boulder, waiting.
"Rai, I asked you to stay put."
"I will not stand back and watch the people I LOVE get hurt…" I retorted, as the horrid vision flashed before my eyes.
Xena turned to me with the look of concern and gently caressed my cheek, "Lover, your hurt-"
"My Mother healed me," I informed and gave her a peck on the cheek, "I'm good as new and ready to fight long side my WIFE."
"Rai…" she purred and gave me a gentle grin, "I don't know what I'm going to do with you."
"Love me forever."
Xena pulled me in for a passionate kiss, just as the horns blared for our
attack. Our kiss ended and she whispered, "I will."
The small
battle we thought would end in a day grew to become six moons and it seemed that
it could go longer yet. Amazons on both sides have fallen…my sisters at war.
I never thought this would happen… Losses on both sides were horrendous
and it's sad. My Aunt Celesta and Uncle Hades had been working overtime with
this bloody battle.
Block, block, block, reverse and with a rapid slice to my attacker's gut,
spilled her intestines onto the ground. I swept my blade over her throat area,
effectively slitting it. Her gore sprayed onto me, coating my already gory armor
with more blood and body matter. The Amazon dropped to the ground dead and I
moved onto my next opponent. My next battle ended quick as I abruptly severed
her head in one move. Onto the next one…
I dropped my
exhausted body down next to the warm campfire. My body ached from the various
wounds that were slowly healing and my stomach growled out its protest. "Easy,"
I muttered, leaning against a log. "I'll feed you in a moment." It's been two
moons since I last saw my wife. I escorted her back myself…along with the help
of my dear Mother. Xena didn't want to go, but we finally persuaded her to
so…for the safety of our child. I've been myself for the last three months and
it feels good to be back as a woman again. It's too bad that I've spent most of
my time on the battlefield and not in the arms of my love.
"You look like you need this more than I do," Ephiny spoke up and held out a wineskin for me to take, "Go on."
"Thanks," I said, taking the offered item and chugged my fill. "Yeah…that hits the spot," I purred and handed it back, "All yours."
"You look like Tartarus."
"Feels worse than it looks," I remarked, wiping by bloody brow with the back of my hand. I couldn't tell if it's my own or from my fallen enemies…who really cares.
"Want a healer?"
"It'll heal," I shook my head, "Save it for when I change-I'll need it then for sure."
My Regent silently assessed my behavior, "It's not your fault-"
"It is as much my fault as it is Discord's."
"Sierra you can't keep blaming yourself for this," Ephiny rebutted and scolded, "STOP IT. The QUEEN I know wouldn't dwell on the past. She would know that things like this just happen--no matter how horrible it is. Its just part of life."
I silently stared at my friend and nodded. She knew me more that I do at times. No wonder she's my Regent and one of my best friends. "You're right," I agreed, "I'm sorry."
"My Queen it is perfectly okay," she nodded and flashed me a grin, "I was afraid I would have to give you a nice ass whooping to help you see the light."
I raised a brow at her playful threat, "Oh, really?"
"Yep." Ephiny nodded, "A certain Warrior Princess gave me strict instructions before she left to make sure you would take care of yourself. I am not going to break my word to her."
I chuckled, "Fine."
An Amazon messenger rode up and skidded to a stop before us. "My Queen," she greeted and bowed before me, "Your Consort is going into labor."
"My GODS…" I uttered and leapt to my feet, "I've got to go to her."
"Go…be with her," Ephiny gestured, "I'll take care of everything."
I whistled for Cronus and quickly mounted him. I turned to my Regent, "Take care."
"You too," she flashed me an reassuring smile, "See you soon, my Queen."
"Lets go home," I whispered to Cronus.
DAWN
We skidded to a stop in front of our cabin and I abruptly dismounted. I handed the reigns to a Royal guard standing nearby, "Take care of him."
"Yes, my Queen."
Gabrielle stepped out of my house with a beaming smile, "Good morning my Queen."
"Morning," I said and took in the sight of her pregnant self. "Gabrielle, you look radiant."
"Thank you," she blushed and assessed my gore incrusted self, "We should get you cleaned up a bit." She turned to the remaining guard, "Bring our Queen a change of clothes."
"Yes, Princess."
"What about my wife?"
"She's fine and so is the baby," she informed and dragged me towards the hot springs, "Besides a few more minutes won't make any difference…now would it?"
"No, I guess not."
A HALF A CANDLE MARK LATER
I was now clean and my wounds were tended to. I quietly entered into our home and be-lined it towards the bedroom. I silently stood in the doorway and just stared at my family. Nestled upon her chest was our newborn child. Her arm was protectively wrapped around the baby. I slowly moved closer and knelt down to get a better view. I sat there in awe at our creation.
"About time…" Xena whispered and slowly began to stir, "I thought I'd have to hunt you down myself."
"You know I like a good chase," I retorted and ran my hand over our newborn's full head of dark hair. I gave my wife a gentle kiss, "How are you doing?"
"Sore, but that is to be expected…" she revealed with a grin and turned an inquisitive eye on me, "I could ask the same question." She gave me the once over and instantly assessed my condition, "Rai, when was the last time you ate?"
"Two maybe three days," I replied and hoped that she wouldn't notice the puffiness under my eyes from the lack of sleep.
"And sleep?"
"I lost track…" I shrugged, "I take short naps when I can."
"Rai," Xena scolded, "You know better than that."
"I know."
Xena slowly sat up and patted my side of the bed, "Come over here and get to know your SON."
I flashed her a grin as climbed onto our bed, "A son, huh?"
Xena gently placed our newborn into my awaiting arms and gave me a kiss, before heading into the bathroom.
I instantly began counting all his little fingers and toes. I gave his tiny forehead a kiss as he grabbed my finger and squeezed. "He's a strong little guy."
"You should see him when he's nursing," she said and climbed back into bed, "YOUR son is a leech…I had to pry him off my nipple. I swear I thought he took a bit off…"
I don't know what came over me, but I just started giggling.
"Laugh it up," Xena grumbled and smacked me in the face with a cloth diaper, "It's your turn."
"Hey!" I muttered and sat our son down. I proceed to relieve him of the soiled one and was sprayed in the face for my trouble. My wife lost it and broke down laughing at my misfortune. I glanced down at our son, who took this lovely opportunity to cry out his need for food.
She nudged, "Aren't paybacks a bitch?"
I quickly cleaned him up and rewrapped our son again.
"Clean yourself up," she said, taking him from me. "And get your sexy self back to bed."
I removed my soiled clothes and tossed them in the corner. Gave myself a quick sponge bath and threw on a clean shift. I climbed back into bed and settled next to my nursing partner. I leaned over and whispered into his ear, "You're supposed to be on my side." I moved to my side and silently observed the two most important people in my life. "Xena, I love you with all my heart…" I confessed and momentarily closed my eyes.
"I love you too," she whispered, "Sweet dreams."
My exhaustion overwhelmed me and I was finally out.
To be continued...
